Our Approach to Pediatric Dentistry
WHY A DENTAL HOME IS IMPORTANT FOR CHILDREN
At Pediatric & Adolescent Dentistry, we know you want the best for your kids, and that includes finding them a dental home they can stick with long term. It’s important to find a place where your child can easily get used to dental visits and learn how to take care of their teeth and gums. The habits formed in childhood set the stage for how they will approach dental care as adults.
Our pediatric dental specialists know how to make kids feel welcome and get them excited about their oral health. We take time to get to know your family and have created a fun environment everyone will enjoy. As our little patients grow older, we transition them into patient rooms that are more appropriate for teens and college students. But they’ll still be seeing the same great dental team they’ve come to know and love
Preventive Care for Kids
KEEPING LITTLE SMILES HEALTHY
We offer a range of treatments to keep your child’s smile healthy. These include professional dental cleanings, fluoride varnish, and dental sealants. Regular dental checkups and evaluations are an important part of any preventive dental routine. It’s especially important to keep the baby teeth healthy so they can hold enough space for the permanent teeth. Our team will give you tips on how to implement good at-home hygiene routines.
At Pediatric & Adolescent Dentistry, we use digital X-rays. These are faster and safer than traditional radiographs. We also use handheld X-ray technology with sensors for clearer images and a much more comfortable experience for our young patients.
Teeth Whitening
TO BOOST KIDS’ CONFIDENCE
We offer Opalescence teeth whitening treatments for teens at our office. This professional treatment results in significant improvement in just a single session. Take-home whitening kits with custom trays are also available as a convenient option. Brightening a discolored smile has never been easier, so if your teen has concerns about their smile, ask our team about whitening options that can help.
Our Pediatric Dental Services:
Keep Kids Smiling
Form Healthy Habits
Prevent Decay
Tooth-Colored Fillings
RESTORATIONS WITH A NATURAL FINISH
We use tooth-colored fillings at our dental office because they blend in beautifully with natural teeth. Your child’s dentist will craft the filling to match the shade and texture of the surrounding teeth and effectively replace compromised tooth structure. These composite resin fillings also help insulate the tooth to prevent later sensitivity to hot and cold.
Dental Bonding
FIXES CHIPS AND COVERS STAIN
Dental bonding is a technique used to treat teeth that have suffered minor damage or that have internal discoloration. Your child’s dentist will apply tooth-colored composite resin, skillfully sculpting it to replace missing enamel or to cover dark areas. Then we’ll cure it with a special light and polish it to blend perfectly with your child’s smile. They’ll be able to treat it normally as soon as they leave their appointment.
Silver Diamine Fluoride
STOPS DECAY FROM SPREADING
Silver diamine fluoride treatment is a noninvasive way to kill cavity-causing bacteria and stop decay from spreading. This is a great alternative to traditional fillings for kids who are at high risk for cavities, who have a hard time receiving dental treatment, or whose cavities are in particularly hard-to-access places. The process is quick and easy: we just paint the liquid onto the teeth with a small brush, and that’s it!
Sedation Dentistry
PUTS YOUNG PATIENTS AT EASE
Some young patients need extra support to feel at ease during dental treatments. Our sedation options are oral sedation, nitrous oxide (happy gas), and in-house IV sedation. We have a qualified anesthesiologist who visits our practice when the need arises. For kids with advanced medical and dental needs, in-hospital general anesthesia is also available.
Pulp Therapy
FIXES COMPROMISED DENTAL PULP
The pulp is the tissue that lies inside the tooth. When it becomes infected or inflamed, it can cause significant discomfort. With pulp therapy, your child’s dentist removes the infected tissue and seals it back up to prevent bacteria from reentering the tooth. This helps to preserve the affected tooth and protect it against future inflammation.
Lip-Tie and Tongue-Tie Revisions
LASER DENTISTRY FOR OPTIMUM COMFORT
Our dental team uses laser dentistry to provide lip- and tongue-tie revisions, also called frenectomies, for infants and children. The dental laser makes this treatment quick and comfortable, minimizing bleeding and aiding in the recovery process.
Sports Mouth Guards
CUSTOM MADE IN HOUSE
Our custom-made sports mouth guards are designed to protect your child’s teeth while they play their favorite sports. The mouth guard acts as a cushion, softening the impact if your child does find themselves on the receiving end of a sports-related facial injury. We take digital impressions to make sure your child’s guard fits them comfortably. We can also tailor mouth guards to the level of protection your child needs. A mouth guard will protect your child’s teeth, mouth and jaw.
Dental Crowns
PROTECT TEETH AGAINST FUTURE DAMAGE
We used stainless steel and zirconia dental crowns for children. Stainless steel crowns are primarily for kids who still have their baby teeth. They fit over the entire tooth and hold up well to regular chewing and biting pressure. Zirconia crowns are tooth-colored, which is ideal for children who have their permanent teeth or need a crown on a tooth that shows when they smile. All of our crowns provide strength and stability to damaged teeth, helping kids maintain good oral health and avoid the need for extractions.
Tips for Baby’s First Visit
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO PREPARE
Preparing for your baby’s first dental visit can be nerve-racking. But don’t worry! There are things you can do to support your child before their first visit. First, talk to them about the dentist and explain what the dentist will do. Then you can show them how to open their mouth wide as you gently brush their teeth. Make the idea of dental care fun by reading books or watching shows about dental visits with their favorite cartoon characters.
